Job summary

Muon Space, Inc. seeks a Senior Security Engineer to advance security posture across satellites, ground systems, and cloud infrastructure while aligning with NIST 800-171 and ITAR/EAR requirements.

The role covers threat modeling, vulnerability management, IAM, and proactive monitoring across mission networks. You will collaborate with aerospace, software, and compliance teams to ensure security, safety, and regulatory alignment.

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI clearance, or eligibility to obtain one.
• Familiarity with satellite communication protocols, embedded systems, and RF/space-ground link security.
• Experience securing aerospace or mission systems — satellites, ground systems, embedded/flight software, or C2 interfaces.
• Deep understanding of identity and access management principles and hands-on Okta or Azure AD administration.
• Proficiency with cloud security in AWS (IAM, VPC, Security Groups, CloudTrail, GuardDuty, Config).
• Experience with SIEM platforms (Splunk, Sentinel, Elastic) for log analysis and detection engineering.
• Familiarity with compliance frameworks (NIST 800-171, CMMC, SOC 2, ISO 27001).

Responsibilities

• Design and implement cybersecurity controls for satellite software and ground systems.
• Develop secure software practices for mission systems including threat modeling and vulnerability management.
• Monitor mission networks and satellite systems for cyber threats and coordinate incident response.
• Collaborate with aerospace, software, and compliance teams to meet security and regulatory requirements.
• Own network security architecture including firewall rules, IDS/IPS tuning, and VPN infrastructure.
• Assess vulnerabilities in flight software and satellite protocols, and coordinate remediation with engineering teams.
• Administer and harden IAM systems (Okta, AWS IAM) with SSO and access reviews.
• Develop and maintain security monitoring and detection using SIEM, plus response playbooks.
• Lead or support incident response activities and post-incident reporting.
• Maintain DLP controls for CUI and sensitive data and keep security policies current.
