Job summary

Muon Space, Inc. is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to own and advance security posture across satellites, ground systems, mission networks, and cloud infrastructure.

The role emphasizes compliance with NIST 800-171 and ITAR/EAR, with responsibilities spanning threat modeling, IAM hardening, and security monitoring across AWS and on-prem networks. You will collaborate with aerospace, software, and compliance teams, influence security policy, and contribute to incident response, DLP, and CMMC

Qualifications

• 5+ years of information security or security engineering experience.
• Familiarity with satellite/space-ground link security and RF systems.
• Hands-on IAM administration (Okta, AWS IAM) and cloud security in AWS.
• Experience with SIEM platforms and threat detection.
• Knowledge of NIST 800-171, CMMC, SOC 2, ISO 27001 compliance.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement cybersecurity controls for satellite software, ground systems, and mission infrastructure.
• Develop secure software practices including threat modeling, reviews, vulnerability management, and security testing.
• Monitor mission networks and satellite systems for threats; investigate incidents and coordinate containment.
• Collaborate with aerospace, software, systems, and compliance teams to meet security and regulatory requirements.
• Own network security architecture including firewall, IDS/IPS, segmentation, and VPNs.
• Assess vulnerabilities in flight software and satellite protocols; coordinate remediation with engineering.
• Develop and maintain security monitoring and response playbooks using SIEM tools.
• Drive cloud security posture management across AWS (IAM, S3, Security Groups, CloudTrail).
• Support CMMC Level 2 and NIST SP 800-171 compliance; prepare SSP narratives and evidence.
• Develop and deliver security awareness training and phishing simulations.
• Lead or support incident response activities including containment and root cause analysis.
• Maintain and improve data loss prevention (DLP) for CUI and sensitive data.
• Contribute to security policy development and keep documentation current.
