Job summary

GlaxoSmithKline is seeking a Solution Architect to provide solution architecture and design assurance for major digital initiatives in the US. The role ensures designs meet architecture standards, align with reference architectures, and deliver business outcomes across platform domains with a focus on reliability, security and observability.

The position is hybrid in the United States, offering remote and on-site collaboration with engineering delivery teams and enterprise architecture leaders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in technology or engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years in technology architecture or senior engineering, incl. 3+ years producing solution designs.
• Experience in multiple technology domains to design end-to-end solutions.
• Experience collaborating with one or more business domain architects.
• Experience running architecture review or design assurance.
• Experience designing for reliability, resilience, and observability.
• Experience designing secure and compliant solutions.
• Experience reviewing supplier or SI designs against architecture standards.
• Experience applying AI patterns in solution architecture.
• Experience designing solutions across SaaS, PaaS, IaaS using Azure and/or GCP.
• Experience with Modern Engineering workflows incl. CI/CD and IaC.
• Experience creating architecture docs for technical and business audiences.
• Experience communicating architectural decisions across multiple domains.

Responsibilities

• Produce solution designs for major initiatives aligned to reference architectures and standards.
• Incorporate reliability, resilience, and observability into designs from the start.
• Design AI-enabled solutions where AI accelerates delivery or operations.
• Provide design assurance and reviews for initiatives led by others.
• Balance business outcomes, cost, risk, and technical fit in designs.
• Collaborate across platform domains to ensure end-to-end coherence.
• Assure supplier and managed-service designs meet enterprise standards.
• Uphold architecture standards and governance with proper exception handling.
• Ensure designs meet security and regulatory requirements including GxP where needed.
• Advise on architectural risk and manage technical debt considerations.
• Engage early in initiative shaping to influence requirements.
