Job summary

Eurofins is seeking a Senior Solid State NMR Scientist to provide laboratory support in ssNMR data collection and interpretation for pharmaceutical materials. You will apply ssNMR to characterize APIs, excipients, and drug products, and perform quantitative analyses of components.

Role entails planning experiments with minimal supervision, collaborating with Materials Science, and contributing to new methodological developments.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in chemistry or related field with ssNMR expertise or BA/MS with 2–3+ years ssNMR experience.
• Experience preparing samples, acquiring data and interpreting 1D/2D ssNMR spectra.
• Experience with solid-state characterization techniques (e.g., XRD, microscopy, DSC/TGA) is a plus.
• Understanding of vibrational spectroscopy (FTIR, NIR, FT-Raman) is advantageous.
• Strong data analysis/interpretation skills; excellent communication; able to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Apply ssNMR to characterize pharmaceutical materials (crystalline and amorphous APIs, excipients, intermediates, and products).
• Use quantitative ssNMR to measure API and product components.
• Plan and run experiments with minimal supervision.
• Collaborate with Materials Science to define characterization strategies.
• Document work accurately in electronic lab notebook per good practices.

Job Description

The Senior Solid State NMR Scientist provides laboratory support in solid-state NMR (ssNMR) data collection and interpretation for pharmaceutical materials.

• Apply ssNMR to characterize a broad range of pharmaceutical materials (crystalline and non-crystalline small molecule APIs, excipients, drug product intermediates, and drug products)
• Apply quantitative ssNMR methods to measure components of APIs and drug products
• Plan and perform experiments with minimal supervision
• Collaborate with colleagues in Materials Science to define and implement characterization strategies
• Solve scientific problems using contemporary Materials Science experimental techniques
• Contribute to the development of new scientific approaches and knowledge within the Materials Science organization
• Ensure contemporaneous and accurate entries are made in the electronic laboratory notebook system according to accepted good practice

Qualifications

• Ph.D. degree in chemistry or equivalent field with expertise in ssNMR or a B.A./M.S degree in pharmaceutical science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field with 2-3+ years of ssNMR experience
• Experience with ssNMR sample preparation, data acquisition, and interpretation of 1D and 2D spectra
• Experience in solid state characterization techniques (such as x-ray powder diffraction, polarized light microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, spectroscopy, etc.) is an advantage.
• Experience and understanding of vibrational spectroscopy (FTIR, NIR, FT-Raman) is an advantage.
• Understanding of physical, analytical, and organic chemistry.
• Strong data analysis and interpretation skills.
• Good organizational skills, the ability to work independently, and excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
• A strong interest and motivation to learn new technologies and concepts is expected.

• Position is full-time, working Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-5:00p.m overtime as needed
