Job summary

iRocket is seeking a senior Solid Rocket Motor Engineer to own SRM design from requirements and preliminary sizing through detailed design, hardware fabrication, motor build, static test, iteration, and transition toward production.

The role requires hands-on execution, analysis, and strong program management for collaboration across teams. Location options include iRocket's New York or Texas facilities, with potential for accelerated start for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, propulsion, or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated ability to take a solid rocket motor from design into real hardware and through successful test.
• Strong working knowledge of SRM design, internal ballistics, and components, with experience in motor assembly or testing.

Responsibilities

• Lead SRM R&D portfolio from concept to production maturation, including sizing, design, development, build and test activities.
• Design and integrate motor cases, propellant grains, insulation/liners, igniters, nozzles, closures, interfaces, and related SRM components.
• Perform or direct internal ballistics, performance, structural, thermal, mass-properties, margin, and design-trade analyses for SRM development.
• Generate and review engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, interface requirements, and configuration‑controlled data.
• Collaborate with manufacturing to resolve producibility issues and build flight-representative hardware.
• Plan and support motor assembly, instrumentation, static-fire testing, data reduction, and post-test inspection.
• Drive design-for-manufacture and design-for-scale decisions to improve repeatability and production readiness.
• Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams and mentor engineers and technicians.
