Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Sr. Automation & Controls Engineer for the Solar Cell Factory (Starlink) to design, build, and optimize control systems for high‑volume solar cell production equipment. You will own automation projects from ideation through commissioning and hand-off to operations.

The role emphasizes robust control software, safe electrical design, and total ownership of existing systems plus development of new equipment, balancing risk and efficiency in a cutting‑edge factory.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or chemical discipline.
5+ years of experience with high-speed manufacturing, controls and automation, and/or programming.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and manage automation projects from ideation to hand-off.
Architect, write, and debug PLC code for high-volume manufacturing.
Ensure safety and compliance with ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA in robots, gantries, and conveyors.
Create simple, effective HMI screens for complex machines.
Integrate equipment into master SCADA and MES systems.
Draft electrical designs compliant with NEC, NFPA, UL508A.
Plan schedules and budgets to motivate the team.
