Job summary

Block is seeking a Principal Security Engineer focused on Software Security Engineering. You will be a technical leader reporting to the CISO, guiding security by design and shaping the architecture of Block’s core products and infrastructure to enable fast, secure innovation.

You will drive multi-year security strategy, lead common security solutions across business units, and mentor engineers while championing secure SDLC practices and threat modeling.

Qualifications

• 10+ years shipping production software and services, with security focus.
• Minimum 5 years establishing and scaling security practices in a large modern tech environment.
• Mastery of system design and architecture; ability to structure ambiguity and drive clarity.
• Deep understanding of security vulnerabilities, risks, and compensating controls.
• Excellent collaboration and communication; ability to influence executives and engineers.
• Demonstrable ability to write production-quality code/scripts for security automation.

Responsibilities

• Deliver world-class software security solutions addressing Block’s top risks.
• Define the multi-year technical security strategy for software security at Block.
• Lead cross-cutting security solutions across Block’s units (Square, Cash App, etc.).
• Drive engineering excellence for critical systems like tokenization platforms.
• Lead security strategy for mobile software and platforms across Block’s ecosystem.
• Champion SecRelEng practices to improve resilience of security services.
• Provide security architecture review and threat modeling for critical systems.
• Mentor engineers and foster knowledge sharing within InfoSec.
