Job summary

Redwood Logistics LLC is hiring a Senior Software Engineering Manager in Chicago, IL. You will lead Brokerage and Managed Services platforms, owning engineering execution, operational excellence, and talent development across Product, Architecture, Security, and business stakeholders.

You will drive engineering planning, backlog prioritization, risk management, and modern SDLC practices while ensuring scalable, reliable software delivery in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering with progression into leadership.
• 3+ years leading software engineering teams responsible for delivery and people development.
• Experience recruiting and mentoring engineering talent in high-performing orgs.
• Proven ability to establish engineering delivery standards across multiple teams.

Responsibilities

• Own engineering planning, roadmap execution, release quality, and predictable delivery.
• Partner with Product to maintain backlog and inform roadmap sequencing.
• Coordinate cross-team dependencies and proactively manage delivery risks.
• Forecast capacity and align staffing with roadmap priorities.
• Establish and improve SDLC standards, including CI/CD, QA gates, and release governance.
• Collaborate with Security for secure software development practices.
• Drive testing strategies and automation to improve quality and speed.
• Guide technical decisions with Architecture and senior engineers for scalable solutions.
• Foster shared code ownership and knowledge sharing across teams.
• Own production reliability, incident response, and post-incident reviews.
• Track team metrics (DORA) and drive improvements in delivery and reliability.
• Balance short-term delivery with long-term modernization and maintainability.
• Mentor and develop high-performing teams; drive career growth.
• Set clear team objectives and empower engineers to deliver business outcomes.
• Align engineering priorities with product, architecture, security, and stakeholders.
• Communicate progress and risks to senior leadership with data-driven insights.
• Identify opportunities to improve organizational effectiveness and platform health.
