Job summary

Illumio in Sunnyvale is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help build the next generation of Zero Trust Segmentation. You will own features, design subsystems, and deliver scalable, secure solutions that protect the critical infrastructure of large enterprises.

You will work with a cutting-edge stack spanning Kubernetes-based platforms and distributed systems, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with field teams and customers to shape the product strategy.

Qualifications

• Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, networking concepts, and debugging skills.
• Experience building large, distributed, and scalable software systems.
• Proficient in at least one higher‑level language such as Go, Python, Java, etc.
• 5+ years building distributed & scalable software systems.
• Experience with networking and security controls is a plus.
• Unix/Linux programming environment experience.
• Familiarity with, and passion for Kubernetes and related technologies.
• General TCP/IP networking knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Build a new, unprecedented way to orchestrate Zero Trust Segmentation down to the application / pod level, identifying easily blocking pathways of attacks in the container ecosystem.
• Understand and enhance modern container platforms such as Kubernetes, Istio, OpenShift, AKS, EKS, GKE etc
• Own and design critical features and subsystems, work out all the details, and defend the design before your peers
• Deliver a rock‑solid implementation that is elegant, simple, scalable, stable, secure, and supportable.
• Mentor junior engineers, new‑grads, and interns to help them grow as engineers and become productive members of the team
• Work with the field organization and key customers to shape this novel product
