Job summary

Mozilla seeks a software engineer for the Firefox Platform Layout/APZ team, focusing on Asynchronous Pan and Zoom, CSS, and rendering across Android, Windows, Linux, and macOS. You will design, implement, and optimize layout components in C/C++ and Rust.

The role emphasizes high-quality, open source code, performance, and collaboration within a distributed team, with opportunities to impact browser internals and performance tooling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field.
• Experience developing C/C++ and/or Rust applications.
• Strong debugging and optimization skills in a multi-threaded environment.
• Experience with memory and performance optimization tools.
• Proven track record finishing projects that span months.
• Open source contributions and/or browser development experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Work cooperatively with Mozillians to identify and fix issues and seek help when needed.
• Write high-quality, performant, open source, standards-compliant code.
• Develop layout, graphics, and UI interaction techniques to maximize rendering quality and performance in Firefox.
• Participate in code reviews, team meetings, and long-term planning.
• Triage and test bugs, drill down to root causes, and explore solutions.
