Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to develop and maintain an agnostic software tool chain for multiple GM vehicle architectures. You will translate complex vehicle scenarios into simulated testing environments and collaborate with Tier 1 suppliers, manufacturing, and integration teams.

The role requires 5–7 years in Python and/or C#, strong CAPL knowledge, and experience with CAN and SOMEIP Ethernet. Hybrid work is expected in Warren/Milford, MI with three days on site.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years hands-on Python and/or C# experience.
• High level experience with Vector / CAPL Scripts.
• Experience building and maintaining software tool chains.
• Strong understanding of serial data, requirements, and vehicle scenarios.
• Ability to translate vehicle scenarios into simulated testing environments.
• Experience supporting multiple vehicle architectures.
• Ability to lead technical solution development, including requirements, analysis, development, and testing.
• Experience with CAN serial data communication.
• Experience with SOMEIP Ethernet communication development.
• Experience with automotive cybersecurity.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external suppliers.
• Experience documenting design specs and testing plans; mentoring.
• Experience with Ethernet protocol debugging using Wireshark.

Responsibilities

• Lead requirements definition, analysis, development, and testing for programs.
• Lead software system design activities and software anomaly correction efforts.
• Perform complex design analysis.
• Promote and support software engineering best practices.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for at least one platform or component.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to software processes.
• Develop and maintain test tools for serial CAN and Ethernet communication.
• Design, develop, and execute performance validation strategies and tests.
• Collaborate with Tier 1 suppliers, manufacturing, and integration teams.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, user guides, RCAs.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster continuous learning.
• Stay current on industry best practices and automotive software trends.
