Job summary

Free Market Health, based in Pittsburgh, is seeking a senior engineer to lead and contribute hands-on to production software, blending backend and frontend work.

You'll mentor engineers, shape delivery, interview candidates, and collaborate with product teams to build scalable solutions in the specialty pharmacy space.

This role emphasizes ownership, AI-assisted development, and delivering impact for patients while upholding FMH's values in a growing healthcare technology company.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering with end-to-end ownership.
• Experience as team lead or tech lead guiding ambiguous work.
• Backend in Python or similar; frontend with React.
• Experience with microservices, REST APIs, relational databases, and cloud platforms.
• Daily use of AI coding tools in real delivery work.
• Excellent communication and proactive problem-raising.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and operate full-stack features and backend services in production.
• Turn initiatives into clear, sequenced work.
• Lead technical design and set code review quality.
• Mentor engineers through pairing and guidance.
• Identify risks early and propose options when plans change.
• Collaborate with Product and domain experts to build the right thing.
• Leverage AI-assisted development in delivery work.
• Participate in triage and coordinate during incidents.
• Interview candidates and help onboard new engineers.
