Job summary

Space Tango LLC in Lexington, KY, is seeking a Software Engineer III to serve as a technical lead for software systems supporting spaceflight projects and IRAD initiatives. You will design, develop, and integrate full-stack applications, backend services, and automation tools enabling research, manufacturing, and autonomous operations in microgravity.

The role requires 4+ years of experience, strong Python skills, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• 4+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong Python development experience.
• Experience developing full-stack software applications.
• Extensive knowledge of software engineering technical skills including multiple programming languages, frameworks, databases, OS and networking, cloud platforms, DevOps, security, and verification techniques.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Willingness to support non-nominal hours for launches, testing, and mission operations.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, integrate, test, maintain, and enhance full-stack software for Space Tango payloads, facilities, and mission operations.
• Develop modern backend services, APIs, databases, automation tools, and user interfaces using Python.
• Design scalable, reliable software architectures reusable across projects.
• Develop new software capabilities while supporting existing platforms in active missions.
• Collaborate with science, software, electrical, mechanical, and mission operations teams.
• Support software integration, verification, testing, debugging, and troubleshooting throughout the lifecycle.
• Develop software interfacing with hardware systems, robotics, and laboratory automation.
• Apply prompt engineering and automation to improve productivity and quality.
• Evaluate emerging software technologies and recommend improvements to architecture and processes.
• Serve as technical lead establishing best practices and mentoring engineers.
