The Feature Engineering organization is looking for an individual to join one of our new software development teams across Payments, Billing & Invoicing, and Subscription Management in Medellin, Colombia. This individual must have a broad understanding of technology systems, a thoughtful approach to communication, and understands how elegant software can contribute to business outcomes.

This role requires strong professional experience working in languages and frameworks such as Ruby on Rails and Golang, the desire to lead, design, and implement features in Rails applications, the ability to turn complex business requirements into elegant and maintainable code, experience creating stable and reliable integrations between separate business systems, and a commitment to making a measurable impact on the business by driving business value through technological solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Communication: Collaborate on and inform cross-functional teams of new feature technical design, technical requirements, limitations, and implementation.
  • Full-Stack Development: Utilize your expertise in Ruby on Rails, Go-Lang, and Node.JS to contribute to the development of various components of our software applications, encompassing both frontend and backend functionalities.
  • Code Review and Quality Assurance: Conduct regular code reviews, identify potential issues, and ensure that the team delivers high-quality code that is secure, maintainable, and efficient.
  • Performance Optimization: Identify performance bottlenecks and implement optimizations to enhance the overall system performance and response times.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to understand business requirements, provide technical insights, recommend best practices and/or alternate approaches, and contribute to product planning and roadmaps.
  • Agile Practices: Follow an iterative software development methodology and contribute to all phases of the software development lifecycle, supporting and articulating development status to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Research and Innovation: Stay up-to-date with the latest trends, tools, and technologies related to Ruby on Rails, Go-Lang, Node.JS, and other relevant areas. Apply this knowledge to drive innovation and improvements in our software development processes.
  • Troubleshooting and Bug Fixing: Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, ensuring the stability and reliability of our platform and services.
  • Growth: Continually refine business acumen and establish domain/industry vertical expertise.
Qualifications
  • Programming skills: Proficiency in both frontend (Angular) and backend (Ruby on Rails) development.
  • Experience with Angular including knowledge of Angular components, services, dependencies, and unit testing.
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails including knowledge of MVC pattern, Routing, Templates, and asset pipeline.
  • Frontend development: Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, along with experience in building responsive and scalable user interfaces.
  • Backend development: Solid understanding of server-side development, including database design, SQL and RESTful APIs.
  • Databases: Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, or other relational databases, as well as non-relational databases like MongoDB.
  • Deployment: Familiarity with deployment processes, including containerization (Docker) and cloud hosting (GCP).
  • Testing: Knowledge of testing frameworks and methods (Selenium, Capybara, RSpec, etc.), as well as experience with TDD (Test-Driven Development).
  • Version Control: Proficiency with Git and GitHub, including branching, merging, and pull requests.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work closely with designers, product managers, and other developers.
  • Problem-solving: Ability to break down complex problems into smaller parts, identify the root cause, and come up with creative solutions.
  • Learning: Willingness to learn new technologies and frameworks, as well as stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices.
  • User experience: Deep understanding of user experience principles and design patterns, including usability, accessibility, and user interface design.
  • Performance optimization: Knowledge of performance optimization techniques, including caching, minification, and image compression.
  • Security: Basic understanding of web application security best practices, including input validation, authentication, and authorization.
  • Agile methodology: Experience with Agile software development methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
  • Continuous integration: Familiarity with continuous integration tools and processes, including automated testing, build, and deployment.
  • Error handling: Good understanding of error handling mechanisms, including exception handling, error messages, and recovery strategies.
  • Debugging: Skill in debugging techniques, including console logs, browser inspector, and debugging tools.
