Job summary

Triumph is hiring a senior frontend engineer to own the web platform from architecture to user experience. You will build on top of scalable backend systems and collaborate with backend engineers who have built the API layer for years.

This greenfield project calls for leadership in state management, tooling, and performance budgets. You will begin by integrating with our React Native codebase for mobile, then drive web initiatives in a fast-growing team.

Qualifications

  • Five+ years building consumer web products with React, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Responsibilities

  • Ship the web app atop existing backend systems and APIs.
  • Define the architectural foundation: tooling, patterns, testing strategy, and quality standards.

Job description

The Role

Rips is one of the fastest growing apps in the collectibles space, and it lives on mobile today. You're going to bring it to the web.

This is a greenfield build on top of backend systems that already work at scale. You'll own the web platform: the architecture, the conventions, the component patterns, the performance budget. The engineers who come after you will build inside the foundation you set, so we're looking for someone who has done this before.

You'll be the first dedicated web engineer, but you won't be alone. Our engineers are deep in React already, and you'll be partnering with backend engineers who have spent the last two years building the systems you'll be consuming. What's missing is someone who owns the web surface end to end and has strong opinions about how it should be built.

What You'll Do

  • Ship Rips on web, building on existing backend systems and APIs.

  • Set the technical foundation for our web platform: architecture, state management, build tooling, component patterns, testing strategy, and the standards that keep quality high as the team grows.

  • Own the user experience, not just the implementation. Motion, micro interactions, responsive behavior, and load performance are yours to get right.

  • Partner with backend engineers on API and data model design. You'll push back when a contract makes the client worse.

  • Create leverage. The patterns you establish should make the next feature faster to build and make it obvious to a mid level engineer what the right approach is.

  • Onboard through our React Native codebase, contributing to mobile while you get deep on the product before web work begins.

  • In person. Our team gathers 5 days a week at Triumph's headquarters at Levi's Plazain San Francisco.

What We're Looking For

  • Five or more years building consumer web products, with React, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, & Javascript expertise.

  • A real track record of 0 to 1. You've built something significant from an empty repository and watched it survive contact with users and with other engineers.

  • Genuine command of web fundamentals. You understand the browser: the DOM, the event loop, rendering and layout, CSS at a level beyond utility classes. Framework knowledge on top of a shaky foundation isn't what we need.

  • Ownership of consequential work, not adjacent work. Tell us about the system you designed and shipped, not the test coverage you raised.

  • Craft. You take pride in how something is built and how it feels to use, and you can hold both at once.

  • Direction setting. You articulate a technical approach, defend it, and change your mind when someone makes a better argument. Senior here means people follow your lead because the reasoning is sound.

  • Fluency with AI as a tool, never as a substitute for understanding. You use it aggressively and you can explain every line that ships under your name.

Why Triumph?
  • High growth. Build a high-scale consumer platform that touches gaming, finance, and social with the autonomy to set our web direction.

  • High agency. Small, high-impact engineering team that is growing rapidly with significant opportunity for leadership and growth.

  • High energy. Passionate team who are proud of our work and velocity (16x year over year growth).

  • Competitive salary and benefits. $400/mo lunch credit, healthcare, vision, dental, 401k, etc.
