Job summary

Lyft is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Rider team in Toronto. You will work across product, data science, and operations to build scalable ridesharing features, participate in on-call rotations, and mentor junior engineers.

You will design fault-tolerant distributed systems, leverage AWS/GCP/Azure, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, maintainable code. Hybrid in-office with flexible week structure.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of software engineering industry experience.
• Solid knowledge of distributed systems, relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience designing, debugging and running fault-tolerant, highly available, large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience working with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Experience working with Kubernetes and container technologies (Docker, CRI-O).
• Ability to work with a low-ego, highly collaborative, cross-functional team.

Responsibilities

• Write well-crafted, well-tested, readable, maintainable code.
• Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and share knowledge.
• Participate in on-call rotation to identify, triage, debug and resolve issues across applications and platforms.
• Explain trade-offs made in decisions.
• Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
• Partner with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to build complex features from idea to execution.
• Analyze internal systems to locate areas for improvement or automation.
• Share knowledge via brown bags, tech talks, and promote engineering best practices.
• Provide technical mentorship and feedback to junior engineers.
• Help establish roadmap and architecture based on technology and needs.
