Job summary

The Public Interest Company is seeking a Senior/Staff Software Engineer to design, build, and scale core systems powering claims identification, case management, and recovery workflows. You will work remote with potential in NY/FL, solving complex engineering problems in a data-heavy, regulated environment.

You’ll lead production systems, integrate AI and workflow automation, and collaborate with product, data science, and business teams to deliver secure, resilient platforms.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in software engineering, backend or full-stack
• Strong Python proficiency and web frameworks (FastAPI, Django, Flask)
• Experience with production systems in AWS (ECS, RDS)
• Familiarity with distributed systems and event-driven architectures
• Ability to design secure, maintainable systems in a fast-paced startup
• Excellent communication with product and business teams
• Preference for simple, elegant technical solutions

Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services, APIs, and orchestration workflows for claims routing
• Scale systems interfacing with AI/ML models and healthcare data
• Develop durable, fault-tolerant workflows using Temporal
• Write clean, high-performance code in Python and TypeScript
• Maintain AWS infrastructure and deployment pipelines
• Collaborate with product and data science teams
• Uphold engineering best practices: testing, docs, versioning
• Explore new technologies to improve reliability and efficiency
