Job summary

Atom Computing in Boulder or Austin is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and build high-performance control systems for quantum computing platforms. You will work across embedded firmware, real-time software, GPU/FPGA acceleration, and hardware orchestration to deliver deterministic control pipelines.

You'll collaborate with theory, software and hardware teams, and be in the office at least 3 days per week.

Qualifications

• BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of relevant postgraduate professional experience.
• Proficiency in C++, Python, Rust, or Go.

Responsibilities

• Build and test embedded firmware and software powering high-speed SDRs, imaging pipelines, and real-time feedback loops.
• Design and optimize deterministic, low-latency software for quantum hardware, including device drivers and Linux kernel modules.
• Architect real-time execution strategies across Linux and RTOS environments for determinism and throughput.
• Develop orchestration layers coordinating GPUs, FPGAs, and custom electronics for high-bandwidth quantum control operations.
• Prototype and iterate using Rust, Python, C/C++, CUDA, and FPGA toolchains (VHDL/Verilog).
• Collaborate with theorists, hardware engineers, and platform teams to translate quantum control flows into production-ready code.
