Job summary

Atom Computing, based in Boulder, CO or Austin, TX, seeks a Principal Software Engineer to provide technical leadership for the software platform that coordinates quantum computing workloads. You will drive architecture, mentor engineers, and guide production deployment of critical services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field; advanced degrees welcome but not required.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of significant technical achievements.
• Proficiency with Python and SQL.
• Experience developing and operating software in Linux environments.
• Familiarity with Git, automated testing, and modern software development practices.
• Willingness to learn atomic, optical, laser physics and quantum mechanics concepts.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for a core area of the software platform and set the technical direction that aligns with the team roadmap.
• Drive architectural decisions across the software stack that orchestrates quantum computing and interfaces with hardware control systems.
• Rewrite and productionize prototype code from quantum engineers into reliable services and establish team patterns.
• Mentor engineers to raise code quality, design, and engineering practices.
• Deploy, monitor, and support production platform with on-call rotations to ensure system availability.
• Collaborate with infrastructure to strengthen CI/CD pipelines and speed up shipping.
• Represent Atom Computing's engineering work in customer and partner engagements.
