Job summary

TCG is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the conversion of Bash batch jobs to Python for a Federal government service conversion project. This role requires US citizenship and the ability to obtain a Federal clearance, with two days on-site per week in Washington, DC.

You will analyze, rewrite, test, and document code, verify functional equivalency, implement secure coding practices, and collaborate with infrastructure and project teams to ensure reliable production performance.

Qualifications

• Seven+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience with Linux/Unix, Bash scripting and Python development.
• Ability to troubleshoot network connectivity and authentication in a secure environment.

Responsibilities

• Analyze Bash scripts and batch jobs to understand logic, inputs, outputs and errors.
• Rewrite Bash-based jobs in Python while preserving functionality and results.
• Refactor converted scripts for reuse, efficiency, readability, reliability, and security.
• Apply Python best practices: modular design, error handling, logging, config mgmt and secure coding.
• Identify and resolve compatibility, dependencies, and risk during migration.
• Develop and maintain isolated test environments for development and validation.
• Create, execute and document test cases to verify the accuracy of converted jobs.
• Compare Python implementations against Bash counterparts to show functional equivalency.
• Test normal processing, boundaries, errors, and recovery scenarios.
• Document conversion activities, test results, decisions and procedures.
• Remediate defects via log analysis and debugging; take corrective actions.
• Follow environment security requirements, credentials handling, data protection and file permissions.
• Provide production support for batch services, investigate failures and fix issues.
• Collaborate with project teams and end users to clarify requirements and ensure needs are met.
• Participate in project meetings and communicate risks and dependencies.
• Stay current with Python practices, scripting, security standards and automation.
• Other duties as assigned.
