TCG, a nationwide IT solutions provider for the Federal government, seeks a Senior Software Engineer to convert Bash batch jobs to Python. You will preserve logic, optimize performance, and ensure secure, reliable production behavior.

This role involves on-site collaboration in Washington, DC, with strong emphasis on test-driven development and operational risk mitigation. Ideal candidates bring 7+ years of software experience, Linux/Unix expertise, and a track record of translating complex

Qualifications

• Seven+ years of professional software development or scripting experience
• Experience with Linux/Unix environments, Bash, and Python development
• Ability to troubleshoot network connectivity and authentication in secure environments
• Experience translating business logic into maintainable software solutions
• Experience developing and executing test cases to validate software functionality
• Strong debugging, logging, and documentation skills
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Responsibilities

• Analyze Bash scripts and batch jobs to understand logic, dependencies, inputs, outputs, and error handling
• Rewrite Bash-based jobs in Python preserving functionality and results
• Refactor and optimize converted scripts for readability, reliability, and efficiency
• Apply Python best practices: modular design, robust exceptions, logging, config mgmt, secure coding
• Identify and resolve compatibility issues and operational risks during migration
• Develop and maintain an isolated test environment for safe validation
• Create and execute test cases to verify accuracy and reliability of converted jobs
• Compare Python implementations against Bash to ensure functional equivalence
• Test normal operations, boundary conditions, errors, and recovery behavior
• Document conversion decisions, test results, and operational procedures
• Investigate defects through logs and debugging and implement fixes
• Follow security requirements for credentials, data, and system interactions
• Provide production support for assigned systems and batch services
• Collaborate with stakeholders to clarify requirements and ensure operational fit
• Participate in project meetings and communicate risks and dependencies
• Stay current with Python practices and automation techniques
• Other duties as assigned
