Job description

Senior Software Engineer, Product Platform at vanta.

About the role You will architect and deliver the foundational platform components that enable every engineering team at Vanta to ship with speed and consistency. This role centers on owning the shared systems that power critical customer-facing features and internal developer tools. You will operate at the crossroads of platform and product, balancing scalability with pragmatic execution. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to turn ambiguous requirements into robust, well-defined interfaces. Your work will directly influence the developer experience for dozens of engineering teams. You will be responsible for both strategic technical direction and hands‑on implementation. You will champion quality, security, and maintainability in everything you build.

Key facts Location: Remote U.S. Engagement: full_time

What you'll do
  • Design and build high-quality, scalable systems and shared libraries that multiple engineering teams depend on - whether that’s shared customer-facing components (Applications Primitives) or internal abstractions (Libraries & Foundations).
  • Partner deeply with product engineering teams to understand their needs and translate them into clean, well-documented APIs and services.
  • Drive technical decisions and influence architecture across team boundaries, with a focus on developer experience and platform scalability.
  • Define and uphold engineering standards for shared components, ensuring consistency, performance, and security across the systems you own.
  • Participate actively in code review, design discussions, and technical planning - raising the engineering quality bar for your team and beyond.
  • Write and maintain thorough documentation for the systems and libraries you build, enabling engineers across the org to use and contribute to them.
  • Contribute to building Vanta’s engineering culture as we scale.
  • Evaluate emerging tools and patterns, including AI-assisted development, to determine how they can improve platform efficiency without compromising reliability.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and security engineers to align platform roadmaps with business objectives and compliance requirements.
  • Own end-to-end delivery of platform features, from initial discovery through rollout and post-launch observability.
  • Implement observability and debugging capabilities for shared platforms to surface usage patterns and performance bottlenecks.
  • Refactor legacy platform components into modular, testable, and reusable libraries that accelerate downstream product development.
  • Lead design reviews for critical platform changes, ensuring alignment with long-term architectural principles.
  • Mentor engineers across the organization on best practices for using and contributing to shared platforms.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of backend or fullstack software engineering experience, with a focus on platform, shared infrastructure, or developer-facing systems.
  • Experience building shared APIs, services, or platform components used by multiple engineering teams - a platform mindset is critical.
  • Familiarity with distributed systems, event-driven architecture, or message queue systems (Kafka, SQS, pub/sub).
  • Excellent communication skills - able to work cross-functionally with engineering, product, and design stakeholders, and to clearly articulate technical trade-offs.
  • Track record of shipping high-quality, maintainable code with sound judgment on architectural decisions.
  • Open to using AI to amplify their skills and strengthen their work - demonstrating curiosity, a willingness to learn, and sound judgment in applying AI responsibly to improve efficiency and impact.
  • Ability to read, understand, and contribute to JavaScript/TypeScript codebases at scale.
  • Comfort with command-line interfaces, scripting, and automation to improve personal and team workflows.
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability for reliability, performance, and security of platform components.
Nice to have
  • Contributions to open source projects or public-facing developer tools.
  • Experience with testing frameworks, code quality tooling, or build systems relevant to TypeScript ecosystems.
  • Background in security, compliance, or audit-related software platforms.
  • Prior work in environments that require supporting multiple customer segments and complex compliance requirements.
  • Experience with observability platforms, logging, and metrics tooling.
Practical notes
  • Employment is full-time.
  • The role is remote within the United States.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
