Job summary

Vanta is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Product Platform group to build shared foundations that power all engineering teams. This role spans Applications Primitives and Libraries & Foundations, focusing on scalable systems and developer-facing APIs.

You will influence architecture, review code, and document systems so teams across Vanta can ship faster and more reliably. A 5+ year backend or full-stack background with distributed systems experience is expected.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend or fullstack software engineering experience, with a focus on platform, shared infrastructure, or developer-facing systems.
• Experience building shared APIs, services, or platform components used by multiple engineering teams.
• Familiarity with distributed systems architecture and message queues.

Responsibilities

• Design and build high-quality, scalable systems and shared libraries used by multiple teams.
• Partner with product engineering to translate needs into well-documented APIs and services.
• Drive architectural decisions and ensure platform scalability and security.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Product Platform org - the group that powers product development across Vanta by building the shared foundations that every engineering team builds on top of. This hire will join one of two closely-aligned teams within the org, each working on foundational challenges with company-wide impact.

Application Primitives is responsible for the shared, customer-facing platform components that product teams implement across the product: examples include comments, notifications platform, event log infrastructure, and agentic audit trails. This team sits at the intersection of platform and product - not pure infrastructure, not pure product - building the reusable building blocks that let other teams ship faster and more consistently.

Libraries & Foundations is a brand-new team that owns Vanta's internal engineering libraries and golden-path patterns. Sitting between core platform and product platform in the stack, this team builds the TypeScript-first abstractions and shared foundations that all Vanta engineers build on top of - including event-driven architecture libraries, code quality tooling, and test frameworks.

You’ll be evaluated for both teams based on your background and interests, and the decision on team placement will reflect where your skills and passions are the strongest fit.

What you’ll do as a Senior Software Engineer, Product Platform at Vanta:

• Design and build high-quality, scalable systems and shared libraries that multiple engineering teams depend on - whether that's shared customer-facing components (Applications Primitives) or internal abstractions (Libraries & Foundations)
• Partner deeply with product engineering teams to understand their needs and translate them into clean, well-documented APIs and services
• Drive technical decisions and influence architecture across team boundaries, with a focus on developer experience and platform scalability
• Define and uphold engineering standards for shared components, ensuring consistency, performance, and security across the systems you own
• Participate actively in code review, design discussions, and technical planning - raising the engineering quality bar for your team and beyond
• Write and maintain thorough documentation for the systems and libraries you build, enabling engineers across the org to use and contribute to them
• Contribute to building Vanta's engineering culture as we scale

How to be successful in this role:

• 5+ years of backend or fullstack software engineering experience, with a focus on platform, shared infrastructure, or developer-facing systems
• Experience building shared APIs, services, or platform components used by multiple engineering teams - a platform mindset is critical
• Familiarity with distributed systems, event-driven architecture, or message queue systems (Kafka, SQS, pub/sub)
• Excellent communication skills - able to work cross-functionally with engineering, product, and design stakeholders, and to clearly articulate technical trade-offs
• Track record of shipping high-quality, maintainable code with sound judgment on architectural decisions
• Open to using AI to amplify their skills and strengthen their work - demonstrating curiosity, a willingness to learn, and sound judgment in applying AI responsibly to improve efficiency and impact.
