Job summary

Klaviyo’s Platform Engineering team builds infrastructure primitives, platforms, tooling, and guidance for Klaviyo’s engineering organization. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will craft a paved path for product teams to manage their services and applications, owning the design and development of foundational platform services that help engineering teams move faster with confidence.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience operating and scaling complex distributed systems.
• Experience in a cloud-native environment.
• Proven experience developing applications in Python and Go.
• Experience operating Kubernetes at scale.
• Experience with Terraform.
• Fundamental understanding of Linux and networking.
• Experience in platform areas such as Kubernetes, IaC, API gateways, observability, or asynchronous tooling.
• Interest or experience applying AI tools to work.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deliver software improving availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of Klaviyo’s core platforms.

Klaviyo’s Platform Engineering team provides infrastructure primitives, platforms, tooling, and guidance to Klaviyo’s engineering organization. This role focuses on core platform services and developer experience. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will craft a paved path for product teams to manage their services and applications, owning the design and development of foundational platform services that help engineering teams move faster with confidence.

Key Responsibilities

• Ship foundational services that let Klaviyo engineering move faster with confidence
• Build a deep understanding of engineering needs across the organization, guiding the design of platform primitives (infrastructure, databases, queuing, etc.) that align with the platform’s vision and empower product teams
• Design, develop, and deliver software that improves the availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of Klaviyo’s core platforms, helping teams meet their SLOs
• Design systems and processes that enable highly available, scalable applications
• Use Python, Go, AWS, and Kubernetes to advance Klaviyo’s platform
• Mentor and pair with other engineers, focusing on performance, self-healing systems, configuration as code, and defensive programming

Requirements

• BA or BS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of experience operating and scaling complex distributed systems
• Experience in a cloud-native environment
• Proven experience developing applications in Python and Go
• Experience operating Kubernetes at scale
• Experience with Terraform
• Fundamental understanding of Linux and all layers of the networking stack
• Experience in a subset of platform areas such as Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, API gateways and traffic management, observability, or asynchronous processing tooling
• Experience or interest in responsibly applying AI tools to your work
