Job summary

Databento, a market data platform for modern finance, is seeking a midlevel or senior IC to join our core engineering team. You will own and maintain the Java client library and collaborate on performance-critical C/C++ components.

You will design APIs with developer-friendly interfaces, write parsers and feed handlers for market data, and optimize for millions of messages per second with nanosecond latency goals while contributing to CI/CD and monitoring.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of full-time software engineering experience, preferably at a trading firm or high-growth startup.
• Strong proficiency in both C/C++ and Java.
• Experience designing APIs with developer-friendly interfaces.
• Familiarity with open source best practices and release management.
• Knowledge of systems programming, multithreading, and data serialization.
• Comfortable working in multiprocess environments and remote teams.

Responsibilities

• Own and maintain our Java client library with robust testing and clear external integration.
• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance server applications in C/C++.
• Write message parsers and feed handlers for direct market data feeds.
• Optimize code for high throughput and ultra-low latency.
• Implement tools and libraries for petabyte-scale data processing.
• Collaborate on build, deployment, CI/CD and monitoring.
• Ensure smooth feature rollouts and improve uptime.
