Job summary

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering in production environments.
• Strong experience with C#/.NET and/or Python.
• Experience building modern full-stack apps; Angular exposure.
• Understanding of APIs, distributed systems, data modelling.
• Experience with relational databases and large financial datasets.
• Exposure to cloud infrastructure, containers and CI/CD.
• Financial services experience; trading, operations, risk, compliance preferred.

I’m working with a leading global hedge fund in New York that is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their Technology team.

This is a highly visible, hands-on engineering role sitting at the intersection of technology and the wider business. The team develops a broad range of platforms used across middle and back-office functions, covering areas such as trade processing, compliance, financial data, accounting and reporting.

You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders across the business in an environment where engineers are expected to understand the problems they are solving rather than simply work from predefined technical requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop business-critical applications and services supporting the firm’s middle and back-office functions.
• Build scalable back-end services, APIs, data platforms and intuitive user-facing applications.
• Help modernise existing technology, breaking down legacy applications and moving towards more modular, cloud-based architecture.
• Take ownership of projects throughout the development lifecycle, from initial requirements and architecture through to deployment and production.
• Work directly with business users to understand complex workflows and translate them into effective technical solutions.
• Explore opportunities to introduce AI and automation into existing processes and applications.
• Build reliable, well-controlled systems with a strong focus on data quality, security and operational resilience.
• Contribute to wider architectural and technology decisions across the engineering function.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience within complex, production environments.
• Strong development experience with C#/.NET and/or Python.
• Experience building modern full-stack applications, ideally with exposure to frameworks such as Angular or similar.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, APIs, distributed systems and data modelling.
• Experience working with relational databases and large financial datasets.
• Exposure to modern cloud infrastructure, containers and CI/CD environments.
• Financial services experience, ideally building technology supporting trading, operations, risk, compliance, accounting or related functions.
• Experience improving or replacing legacy applications would be highly advantageous.
• Exposure to LLMs, AI tooling or workflow automation would be beneficial but is not essential.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with senior business stakeholders.
• A high level of ownership and an interest in solving complex business problems rather than purely implementing predefined requirements.
