Job summary

PortX, a leading AI-powered data and integration company for modern banking, is pursuing a Senior Software Engineer on Mercer Island, WA. You will develop for customer integration projects, build APIs and backend services, and drive secure, scalable components across payments environments.

You will design, test, and maintain high-quality solutions, apply AI tools to boost productivity, troubleshoot issues, and participate in architecture discussions.

Qualifications

• Strong Java development experience as main language.
• Hands-on containerization experience.
• Enterprise integration and API experience: REST and SOAP.
• Spring Boot framework experience.
• Deploying to AWS and related cloud services.
• Experience with Git and Maven.
• Familiarity with AI developer tools (e.g., Copilot, GPT-powered coding assistants).

Senior Software Engineer

Day to day responsibilities include:

• Hands-on development for PortX customer integration projects.
• Build and enhance APIs, backend services, and integration components across modern banking and payments environments.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality solutions for PortX customer integration projects.
• Use modern AI tools responsibly to accelerate engineering productivity, code quality, testing, and documentation.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve customer-reported technical issues in a timely manner, including root cause analysis and permanent fixes where appropriate.
• Participate in architectural and technical design discussions, helping define robust, secure, and maintainable solutions.
• Contribute to deployment, configuration, and operational support processes across cloud-based environments, primarily AWS.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, tooling, and development practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve system performance, reliability, observability, and scalability.
• Create and maintain technical documentation relating to implementations, integrations, troubleshooting, and support handover.

Required skills:

• Strong Java development experience, as main programming language
• Hands on experience with containerization
• Enterprise integration and implementation experience: APIs, event-driven architecture, integration platforms/iPaaS
• Experience with consuming web services, REST and SOAP based architecture
• Hands on experience with Spring Boot framework
• Hands on experience with deploying to AWS platform
• Hands on experience with GIT
• Hands on experience with Maven
• Demonstrated hands-on expertise with AI developer tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, GPT-powered coding assistants, automated test writers etc.

Preferred skills:

• Banking, credit union, or payments domain experience (core banking systems, digital banking, ACH/ISO 20022).
• Hands on experience with integration framework, such as Apache Camel
• Demonstrated technical architectural design capability from past projects
