Senior Software Engineer - Java

Location: Remote (U.S./Canada) - Remote
Compensation: $150,000 – $190,000 + more, see below

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who is passionate about designing and building robust Java-based middle-tier services. You’ll focus on API development and business logic, working with large, complex healthcare datasets and SQL-based backends. This role is not focused on frontend development — but familiarity with UI/UX is a bonus.

What You’ll Do

• Develop and maintain Java-based REST APIs and middle-tier services.
• Write clean, testable, and scalable business logic powering real-world healthcare products.
• Interact with Oracle and other relational databases using SQL and PL/SQL.
• Work closely with internal teams and clinical stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into backend functionality.
• Contribute to overall product architecture decisions and middle-tier technical direction.
• Collaborate with DevOps on deployment, troubleshooting, and monitoring.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering process improvements.

What You Bring

• 8+ years of professional Java development experience, with a strong focus on middle-tier/backend systems.
• Expertise with REST API development and service integration patterns.
• Proficiency in SQL/PLSQL, especially working with large or complex relational schemas (Oracle preferred).
• Experience with at least one Java framework such as Spring Boot, JAX-RS, etc.
• Basic familiarity with DevOps tooling (CI/CD, containerization, etc.).
• Strong debugging, testing, and performance tuning skills.
• Effective communicator and team player who thrives in remote environments.

Bonus Points

• Exposure to healthcare systems or HIPAA-regulated environments.
• Familiarity with Javascript frameworks (React, Angular) is appreciated but not required.
• Prior experience working in small, agile, or startup-style teams.
• Experience with legacy modernization projects.
