About the Role

You’ll be a key engineer building scalable, high-performance APIs and data pipelines that power search, AI-generated visuals, and integrations used by a global scientific community. Expect to work closely with data scientists, product, and design, owning features from concept to production.

What You’ll Do:

• Design and implement backend services that handle large-scale search and AI workflows
• Architect and optimize performance for high-volume endpoints and data pipelines
• Collaborate with data science teams to productionize ML models and build infrastructure for experimentation
• Integrate with third-party systems (e.g., Algolia) and help enrich data workflows
• Participate in code/design reviews and drive backend best practices

What We’re Looking For:

• 5+ years of backend experience building scalable systems (Node.js, Python, Go, etc.)
• Solid understanding of high-volume API design, data pipelines, and throughput challenges
• Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB) and AWS/cloud infrastructure
• Familiarity with event streaming tools (Kafka, Spark, Flink, etc.) is a strong plus
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, remote environment and collaborate effectively across teams
• Passion for making science more accessible and visually compelling
• Remote-first across the US/Canada with flexible work and remote-culture support
