Job summary

IBM is seeking a Senior Software Engineer II with an SRE background to strengthen release pipelines and production safety for our Terraform platform. You will improve observability, drive capacity planning, and lead cross-team initiatives across multiple engineering domains.

You will mentor engineers, influence architectural choices, and help ensure safe, scalable deployments in a large-scale SaaS environment while maintaining blameless, learning-focused practices.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of production experience in SRE, production engineering, or software engineering for large-scale SaaS platforms.
• Hands-on experience building and operating release and deployment pipelines, including progressive delivery, canaries, and rollback.
• Strong observability experience: metrics, tracing, logging, SLOs, and alerting for distributed systems.
• A track record of leading complex, cross-team technical initiatives to completion.
• Clear, empathetic communication and a commitment to blameless, learning-focused practices.

Responsibilities

• Improve release safety and reliability by leading release pipelines, canaries, and verification to production.
• Make production measurable through deep observability, including SLOs, alerting, and log delivery; translate signals into fixes.
• Evolve architecture ahead of scale across Aurora PostgreSQL, Redis, Sidekiq, and Puma; anticipate scale pressures and plan capacity.
• Lead incident response with 24/7 on-call rotation and blameless postmortems to prevent recurring issues.
• Lead cross-team initiatives with Cloud Platform Engineering, Web Engineering, and feature teams; mentor through code reviews and design feedback.
