Job summary

Forbes Technical Consulting LLC in Chicago is seeking an experienced Java software engineer to help build a cloud-based, scalable architecture for instrument management, settlements, and clearing systems. You will own significant components and collaborate with Staff Engineers to drive architectural decisions and quality production code.

The role requires 5+ years of distributed systems experience, strong Java, and familiarity with REST, WebSocket, Kafka, and PostgreSQL in a high-throughput,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years in software engineering with distributed systems.
• Strong Java proficiency with concurrency, memory management and JVM performance.
• Experience with REST and WebSocket APIs; FIX protocol is a plus.
• Experience building scalable, HA systems with 10k+ msgs/sec and sub-millisecond latencies.
• Experience with microservices, Kafka and PostgreSQL.
• Knowledge of derivative contracts and financial markets desirable.

Responsibilities

• Drive development of cloud-based scalable architecture powering instrument management, settlements engine and clearing systems.
• Collaborate with Staff Engineers on architectural decisions and take full ownership of significant components and features.
