Job summary

Abbott is a global healthcare leader seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, test, and maintain software applications for Abbott Cancer Diagnostics. You will lead technical decisions, mentor juniors, and collaborate with business stakeholders to deliver high‑quality software in a cross‑functional team.

The role can be based in Madison, WI or Redwood City, CA, with a focus on reliability, quality, and innovation while upholding Abbott’s values and quality systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or Engineering.
• Understanding of software development design and development, and relevant domain skills.
• Understanding of and significant experience with object‑oriented programming.
• RESTful web services, Relational Databases (Postgres, SQL Server), and ORM technologies (JPA2, Hibernate, Entities Framework).
• Experience designing and developing apps that access and/or utilize cloud‑based frameworks (e.g., Azure, AWS).
• Agile development tools; including JIRA, Confluence repository.
• Experience with STARLIMS custom code.
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship; sponsorship not available at this time.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, testing, and maintenance of software applications for Abbott Cancer Diagnostics.
• Make key technical decisions and mentor junior team members.
• Communicate with stakeholders and ensure software quality with minimal supervision.
• Work with a cross‑functional Software Engineering team to sustain software systems.
• Contribute to design reviews, problem solving, and best practices.
• Build partnerships with peers, SMEs, stakeholders, and decision‑makers.
• Communicate project plans and status updates clearly.
• Possess flexibility to work nights and/or weekends as needed.
• Align work with the company’s mission and quality policies.
