Western Governors University is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead design, development, and delivery of scalable full-stack applications. You will collaborate across product, design, and engineering to implement API-first services and cloud-ready solutions.

Responsibilities include mentoring engineers, driving architectural decisions, and improving system performance, reliability, and observability with modern SDLC practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• 6+ years of experience building and delivering full-stack applications.
• Experience developing web apps and APIs with Java, Node.js, Python, JavaScript.
• Experience with frontend frameworks (Angular or similar).
• Experience with service-based or modular architectures; leading system design decisions.

Responsibilities

• Acts as a technical leader in software engineering, contributing to design, development, and delivery of full-stack apps.
• Designs, builds, and maintains scalable frontend, backend, and API solutions.
• Owns quality, performance, and reliability of systems in their domain.
• Collaborates with product, design, and engineering teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Works across multiple technologies, selecting the right tools for each use case.
• Leads design reviews and code reviews, promoting best practices and maintainable solutions.
• Mentors engineers and improves team effectiveness.
• Identifies risks, dependencies, and technical challenges, and drives solutions proactively.
• Builds and integrates API-first services and web applications.
• Improves system performance, scalability, and user experience across the stack.
• Leads troubleshooting and resolution of production issues.
• Balances speed and quality with pragmatic engineering practices.
• Translates business and technical requirements into scalable, maintainable solutions.
• Drives continuous improvement in technical debt, tooling, and engineering practices.
• Adapts to new technologies and priorities as needed.
