Atomic Machines Inc. is building the Matter Compiler, a general-purpose, AI-native manufacturing system that turns digital designs into functional devices. The role seeks a hands‑on software engineer with architectural depth to manage complexity and scale to more machines and devices.
You will work with fab equipment and cross‑functional teams, delivering dependable software in Go and Python. You will own critical software interfaces, guide migrations, and contribute to a data‑driven,
Atomic Machines is building the Matter Compiler™: a general-purpose, AI-native manufacturing system designed to turn digital designs into functional devices through arbitrary combinations of materials and processes. Starting at the microscale, it brings together precision robotics, physical AI, and optimization to make manufacturing programmable. New devices come from composing reusable manufacturing capabilities, with physical results feeding back into design and production. Our ambition is lights‑out manufacturing that learns from every build.
Atomic Machines recently emerged from stealth and introduced PrimeSwitch, the first device realized through the Matter Compiler. This electromechanical power relay provides concrete evidence of what the platform makes possible and marks an early milestone toward a much broader manufacturing vision.
Why This Role Matters
FABOS is the Matter Compiler’s control plane. It maintains a trustworthy view of materials and equipment, plans production, and coordinates execution across the fab. It connects planned work to physical results so people and autonomous systems can understand what happened, what remains uncertain, and what can happen next.
You’ll build the dependable execution software that makes this general‑purpose platform work as its capabilities and combinations grow. Our team already has deep expertise in data engineering and algorithms. We need a hands‑on software engineer with deep architectural experience and systems thinking to turn that expertise into simple, dependable software.
Your primary responsibility is managing complexity: defining clear responsibilities and interfaces, limiting coupling, and making the system easier to understand, test, operate, and change. Fluency in data and optimization, paired with a willingness to work with hardware, supports that responsibility. The architecture is still taking shape, and you’ll help establish the foundations for scaling to more machines, processes, and devices.
