Job summary

Awetomaton is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build enterprise search and discovery capabilities unifying access across disparate artifact types. You will design and operate search/indexing systems, apply vector search and RAG to surface data to users, and tune relevance at large scale.

DoD Top Secret clearance required; sponsorship available for highly qualified candidates. The role starts in August 2026 and allows hybrid work with weekly site visits to Dayton, OH, including customer

Qualifications

• BS degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 6+ years of experience building and operating search, information-retrieval, or discovery platforms at scale
• Hands-on experience with modern search technologies (Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Solr) and vector/embedding-based retrieval
• Experience applying ML/NLP techniques to search, ranking, or retrieval problems - semantic search, RAG, learning-to-rank
• Experience designing systems that unify discovery across multiple, heterogeneous data types
• U.S. citizenship required; must be eligible to obtain a U.S. Top Secret security clearance

Responsibilities

• Design and operate search and indexing systems that federate discovery across heterogeneous sources
• Apply modern retrieval and ranking techniques (embeddings, vector search, semantic search, RAG) to surface relevant results
• Tune relevance and performance at large scale under real-time query load
• Ensure access control and compliance for data discovery across roles and permissions
