Job summary

Affirm is building scalable data platforms and a reliable storage foundation for its financial technology products. The Senior Software Engineer will architect and scale relational and distributed SQL databases, automate provisioning, migrations, and upgrades, and own the networking stack to storage on Kubernetes.

Qualifications

• Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Hands-on production experience with large-scale database deployments.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate the control plane for large-scale distributed SQL databases (MySQL, TiDB).
• Design reliable schema and data migrations with zero downtime for multi-tenant clusters.
• Own networking between services and storage on Kubernetes, including proxies.
• Lead quarterly team goals and mentor engineers through ambiguity and delivery.
• Collaborate with product, design, and analytics to align on constraints and trade-offs.
• Identify and drive resolution of project, process, technology or business issues.
• Establish metrics and runbooks to keep systems reliable and observable.
• Foster code quality and ownership through reviews and design standards.
