Job summary

Internet Archive is seeking a Software Engineer in the Archiving & Data Services group to apply DevOps and backend engineering practices at petabyte scale.

You will contribute to digital archiving, data services, and public web discovery products, with in-house data centers and global partners. Expect collaboration across North America and occasional in-person team meetings in the San Francisco area.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering focused on DevOps, operations, and backend.
• Experience with Python, Django, PostgreSQL, and Elasticsearch.
• Kubernetes in production environments is preferred.
• Technical leadership experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects across the full software development lifecycle: plan, design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain software solutions.
• Evolve system architectures to support future requirements and improve reliability.
• Plan and migrate deployments from Ansible VM deployments to Kubernetes and ArgoCD.
• Triage, resolve, and address root causes of production issues.
• Support engineering leadership with project coordination and strategic planning.
• Develop, deploy, and operate SaaS web applications and web discovery services.
• Build and improve foundational systems and developer tools.
• Foster collaboration and continuous improvement across the team.
