Job summary

Internet Archive is seeking a Software Engineer in San Francisco to strengthen the Archiving & Data Services group. You will apply software engineering and DevOps practices to expand digital archiving, data services, and access tools for a global partner network.

You will own production systems end to end, evolve deployments toward Kubernetes and ArgoCD, and collaborate across teams to improve reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer focusing on DevOps, operations, and backend.
• Proficiency with Python, Django, Postgres, and Elasticsearch.
• Preferred: Kubernetes in production environments and leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects across the full software lifecycle: plan, design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain.
• Evolve architectures to improve reliability and reduce operational burden.
• Plan and execute migration of deployments from Ansible-based VM deployments to Kubernetes and ArgoCD.
• Triage and resolve production issues.
• Support leadership with project coordination and operational execution.
• Support SaaS web apps, public search and discovery sites, and web crawling operations.
• Build and improve foundational systems, services, and developer tools.
• Foster collaboration and continuous learning; identify tech/workflow improvements.
