Job summary

CoCounsel Legal is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build and operate the Customer Files Orchestration Service, enabling millions of customer files to be usable by agents. You will own a meaningful part of the service end-to-end, designing, implementing, testing, and operating it at scale.

You will lead reliability, observability, and performance, while mentoring others and collaborating with storage, extraction, and indexing teams to deliver robust, scalable workflows for complex document

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in CS, engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years building production software with ownership of major components.
• Extensive AWS and Python production experience on a Python service in the cloud.
• Deep understanding of concurrency in Python and async programming in production.
• Experience with Kubernetes in production and autoscaling.
• Background in large-scale orchestration or data pipelines across services.
• Knowledge of consistency models, delivery guarantees, and idempotency.
• Experience with APIs as products, backward compatibility, and change management.
• Strong engineering fundamentals: testing, reviews, CI/CD, observability.
• Clear communication and ability to defend design decisions.

Responsibilities

• Own the orchestration service end-to-end from design to ship and operate.
• Define domain concepts, establish correct state transitions, and ensure durability.
• Build queuing, rate limiting, backpressure, and autoscaling mechanisms.
• Treat APIs as products with versioned contracts and stable behavior.
• Design for correctness at scale, handling concurrency and failure modes.
• Lead reliability and on-call incidents, drive post-mortems, and improve runbooks.
• Mentor engineers through code and design reviews, and collaborate across teams.
• Ensure cross-team alignment with storage, extraction, indexing, and frontend groups.
