Job description

Job Description

General Motors is undergoing a major transformation, both in how we operate and in how we will influence the future of transportation. Our Software Services team is at the forefront of this work, emboldening our culture by seeking out determined, innovative individuals who will join our team to help move us forward and achieve our mission.

The Role

As a Senior Software Engineer - Connectivity Software Verification, you will ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of GM's connected vehicle features, including Digital Key, Bluetooth, telematics, network connectivity (WLAN, VLAN), and in-vehicle networking stacks. You will act as a technical leader on the verification side, collaborating closely with embedded software, systems, architecture, and validation teams to define test strategies, build robust automation, and drive issue resolution across the full connectivity stack. This role is ideal for an experienced individual contributor who is hands‑on with test design and implementation, comfortable working in complex, distributed systems, and passionate about delivering seamless connected‑vehicle experiences to our customers.

What You'll Do
  • Own end‑to‑end verification strategy for key connectivity features (Bluetooth, Digital Key, telematics, network connectivity - WLAN/VLAN) from requirements analysis through release readiness.
  • Design, implement, and maintain automated test suites for in‑vehicle connectivity software and supporting tools, with a focus on regression stability and coverage.
  • Develop system‑level and integration test cases that exercise edge cases, failure modes, roaming/hand‑off scenarios, and interoperability across ECUs, mobile devices, and backend services.
  • Analyze requirements, architecture, and design documents to identify test gaps and proactively influence design for testability.
  • Build and extend test frameworks, harnesses, and utilities (e.g., Python‑based automation, log parsing, simulators, stubs/mocks) to increase repeatability and execution speed.
  • Perform hands‑on debug and triage of complex issues across Bluetooth/Digital Key, telematics control units, and network connectivity (WLAN, VLAN) layers; capture traces and logs and partner with development to root‑cause defects.
  • Work with systems, cybersecurity, and performance teams to ensure connectivity software meets reliability, robustness, and security expectations.
  • Contribute to continuous integration pipelines by integrating automated tests, stabilizing nightly/continuous runs, and reporting clear quality signals.
  • Mentor more junior engineers in test design, automation best practices, and debugging techniques; help raise the overall bar for connectivity software verification.
  • Provide clear, data‑driven quality status and risk assessments to stakeholders and leadership.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 5+ years of professional experience in software verification, validation, or quality engineering, including substantial hands‑on test development.
  • Strong experience testing embedded or real‑time systems, ideally in automotive, mobile, telecom, or networking domains.
  • Solid programming/scripting skills for test automation (e.g., Python; familiarity with C/C++ and/or Java is a plus).
  • Practical knowledge of connectivity technologies such as: Digital Key / phone‑as‑a‑key solutions.
  • Bluetooth/Bluetooth Low Energy (pairing, profiles, audio/data use cases).
  • Network connectivity fundamentals (WLAN, VLAN, TCP/UDP, routing, DNS, security protocols).
  • Experience designing and executing system‑level, integration, and regression tests, including negative, stress, and long‑run scenarios.
  • Familiarity with test management and defect tracking tools, and with CI environments (e.g., Jenkins, Git‑based workflows).
  • Strong debugging skills using logs, traces, and protocol analyzers (e.g., Bluetooth sniffers, network analyzers, CAN tools).
  • Proven ability to work cross‑functionally in a fast‑paced engineering environment, communicate clearly, and drive issues to closure.
  • Strong ownership mindset, attention to detail, and a passion for delivering high‑quality, customer‑facing features.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)
  • Experience testing in‑vehicle infotainment or automotive connectivity systems (Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, Digital Key/BLE, telematics) across multiple ECU configurations.
  • Experience with in‑vehicle networks and automotive protocols (e.g., CAN, LIN, SOME/IP, UDS, Ethernet in‑vehicle networking).
  • Background in connectivity or infotainment domains within automotive, including prior work on telematics or similar connected‑services platforms.
  • Hands‑on experience with Digital Key ecosystems (e.g., Bluetooth LE, UWB, NFC, secure storage, mobile app integration).
  • Experience with: Automated test frameworks and CI/CD (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar
