Job summary

Pearson is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and deliver scalable, secure software for Higher Education Digital products. You will lead complex technical initiatives, mentor engineers, and collaborate across product, architecture, security, and operations teams.

The role emphasizes modernization, cloud-native development, automation, and AI-assisted practices to improve quality, reliability, and delivery velocity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related technical discipline.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proven experience leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teams.
• Experience designing, deploying and supporting cloud-native applications.
• Experience with Agile software development environments.
• Strong ability to influence decisions and drive engineering excellence without direct authority.
• Experience mentoring engineers and promoting best practices.
• Proficiency in modern languages and frameworks (Java, Spring Boot, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, Python).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support enterprise-scale software.
• Lead complex technical initiatives across multiple systems and teams.
• Ensure quality, security, performance, maintainability, and reliability.
• Contribute to architecture discussions with technical guidance.
• Drive CI/CD, automated testing, DevOps, observability, and cloud-native architectures.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and quality.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Architecture, Security, Quality Engineering, and Operations.
• Provide technical leadership through code and design reviews and mentoring.
• Troubleshoot production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Identify risks and communicate them to stakeholders; provide realistic estimates.
• Contribute to platform modernization, cloud migration, scalability, security.
• Stay current with industry trends and best practices.
