Job summary

Pearson's Higher Education Digital group seeks a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and deliver scalable, secure software for its education platforms. You will shape technical direction, mentor engineers, and collaborate across product, architecture, security, and operations to raise quality and velocity.

The role emphasizes cloud-native development, automation, AI-assisted tooling, and modern DevOps practices, with a focus on reliability and observability in enterprise environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience delivering enterprise-scale applications.
• Proven experience leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teams.
• Experience designing, deploying, and supporting cloud-native applications.
• Experience in Agile environments and collaborating with globally distributed teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support enterprise-scale software applications and services.
• Lead complex technical initiatives spanning multiple systems, services, and engineering teams.
• Ensure software solutions meet the highest standards for quality, security, performance, maintainability, and reliability.
• Participate in and influence architecture and design discussions with technical guidance.
• Drive modern software practices including CI/CD, automated testing, DevOps, observability, and cloud-native architectures.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and solution quality.
• Collaborate with Product, Architecture, Security, QE, and Operations to deliver outcomes.
• Provide technical leadership through code reviews, design reviews, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.
• Troubleshoot production issues and perform root-cause analysis and preventative improvements.
• Identify risks and communicate them proactively to stakeholders.
• Contribute to platform modernization, cloud migration, and scalability initiatives.
• Stay current with industry trends and Pearson values.
