Treetown Tech in Ann Arbor, MI, seeks a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join our multidisciplinary engineering team. This HYBRID role offers flexibility with remote work several days per week and opportunities to shape R&D projects for consumer and defense applications.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in embedded software, strong C/C++ skills, experience with microcontrollers, and familiarity with CI/CD for embedded development; MATLAB/Simulink and Buildroot/YOCTO are a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Develop embedded software for innovative R&D projects in both the consumer and military space.
• Work closely with the software department and project teams to solve problems, design software architecture, and transfer knowledge.
• Test and debug new and existing platforms.
• Maintain software documentation and version control.
• Design and develop Windows and Linux based software test verification tools.

Qualifications

• 5 or more years’ experience developing embedded software.
• Proficiency with C or C++ programming; Python a bonus.
• Good understanding of low‑level microcontroller programming.
• Passion for developing quality software and software development methodologies.
• Experience programming and debugging microcontrollers on PCBs.
• Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or Electrical Engineering desired, but experience matters most.
• Experience with Unit Test and CI/CD tool chains for embedded development preferred.
• Ability to work directly with end‑users and customers.
• Collaborative nature that enjoys an R&D and prototyping environment and can work both as part of a team of experts and as an active individual contributor.
• Experience with MATLAB/Simulink and Stateflow for developing, simulating, and validating control algorithms (bonus).
• Embedded Linux experience with YOCTO or Buildroot (bonus).
• Experience with web frameworks (Django, Flask, React, Vue.js, etc.) (bonus).
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) and/or ORMs (ODB, Django, SQLAlchemy) (bonus).
