Root is seeking a Senior Software Engineer on the Automotive Partnerships team to design and build scalable integrations with automakers, mobility platforms, and partner systems. You will own features end-to-end, shape architecture, and mentor other engineers while collaborating across product, design, and external partners.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Automotive Partnerships team, you'll build the technology that connects our products with leading automakers, mobility platforms, and automotive technology partners. You'll help design and deliver reliable, scalable integrations across vehicle, cloud, and partner systems, turning complex technical and business requirements into seamless customer experiences.

You’ll collaborate closely with product, design, engineering, and external partner teams to define technical strategy, navigate evolving industry standards, and bring new integrations from concept to launch. Beyond writing high-quality code, you'll shape architecture, establish engineering best practices, mentor other engineers, and help partners make sound technical decisions.

This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving ambiguous, cross-functional problems and building durable platforms at the intersection of software, connected vehicles, and strategic partnerships.

Salary Range

$136,500 - $160,000 (Eligible for competitive bonus and equity offering)

What You Will Need to Succeed

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience working on production systems
• Strong experience building backend services and APIs in Ruby on Rails
• Experience working with distributed systems and cloud infrastructure
• Comfort owning features and services with minimal oversight
• Solid understanding of data modeling, performance, and system reliability
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines
• A pragmatic, product-minded approach to engineering
