Job summary

Sorenson Communications is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for Android to design, implement, and test high-performance mobile applications. You will work in a remote-friendly environment, contributing to cross-functional teams and delivering high-quality code for our industry-leading language services platform.

The ideal candidate has 5–8 years of Android development experience, is proficient in Java/Kotlin, and comfortable with C/C++ and NDK.

Qualifications

• BS degree in CS, EE, or equivalent.
• 5–8 years of Android mobile development experience.
• Experience with multi-threaded applications.
• Bonus: video encoding/decoding (H.264/HEVC) and related media workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and test high-performance Android apps.
• Write high quality, maintainable code.
• Develop GUI and app components per platform standards.
• Implement REST/JSON/XML/HTTP protocols.
• Lead technical discussions and set timelines.
• Follow best practices and write unit tests.

Pay Range: Actual pay may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for incentive compensation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Participate in the design, implementation, and testing of high-performance, high-quality communication applications on Android mobile devices.
• Write high quality and maintainable code.
• Develop GUI and other aspects of the application according to the standards of the platform.
• Create innovative solutions that increase application performance, usability, and fit for our target customers
• Implement standards-based communication protocols and related technologies including JSON, XML, HTTP, and REST
• Recommend new technologies or direction for product development.
• Provide aggressive, attainable goals and time frames for the team.
• Drive standards based architectures and supporting services.
• Use of agile and rapid application development processes to speed engineering efforts
• Follow engineering best practices in a team environment to develop high-quality products including writing automated unit, component, and feature level testing.
• Contribute to the overall enterprise architecture and the development of product features.
• Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required

• 6+ years of experience developing mobile applications in Android Studio with Java/Kotlin.
• Experience with Android NDK
• Must possess good communication skills and be eager to work in a team environment with other dedicated engineers
• Strong knowledge of C and C++
• Must be able to effectively communicate using written English, and spoken English
• Must be able to effectively participate in and lead technical discussions with team members and other teams

Experience/Education/Certifications

• BS degree in CS, EE, or equivalent
• Experience developing high-quality, multi-threaded applications

Bonus Experience

• Experience with video encoding/decoding including H.264 and HEVC
• Experience with video, voice, or text communication applicationsExperience with native iOS mobile dev including Obj C/Swift/SwiftUI
• Experience with calling protocols including SIP and WebRTC
• Experience with Git and GitHub and CI/CD and the Google Play Store
