Job summary

Sorenson Communications, LLC in Utah is seeking a senior Android engineer to design, implement, and test high-performance mobile applications for accessibility products. You will work on Android Studio using Java and Kotlin, contribute to GUI and feature development, and help shape performance and usability for users who rely on real-time communication.

The role requires strong C/C++ knowledge, experience with NDK, and the ability to lead technical discussions within a cross-functional team.

Qualifications

• BS degree in CS/EE or equivalent required.
• 6+ years of Android development experience with Java/Kotlin.
• Strong knowledge of C/C++ and Android NDK.
• Ability to communicate clearly in English and work within a team.
• Experience leading technical discussions with cross-functional teams.

Pay Range: Actual pay may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for incentive compensation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Participate in the design, implementation, and testing of high-performance, high-quality communication applications on Android mobile devices.
• Write high quality and maintainable code.
• Develop GUI and other aspects of the application according to the standards of the platform.
• Create innovative solutions that increase application performance, usability, and fit for our target customers
• Implement standards-based communication protocols and related technologies including JSON, XML, HTTP, and REST
• Recommend new technologies or direction for product development.
• Provide aggressive, attainable goals and time frames for the team.
• Drive standards based architectures and supporting services.
• Use of agile and rapid application development processes to speed engineering efforts
• Follow engineering best practices in a team environment to develop high-quality products including writing automated unit, component, and feature level testing.
• Contribute to the overall enterprise architecture and the development of product features.
• Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required

• 6+ years of experience developing mobile applications in Android Studio with Java/Kotlin.
• Experience with Android NDK
• Must possess good communication skills and be eager to work in a team environment with other dedicated engineers
• Strong knowledge of C and C++
• Must be able to effectively communicate using written English, and spoken English
• Must be able to effectively participate in and lead technical discussions with team members and other teams

Experience/Education/Certifications

• BS degree in CS, EE, or equivalent
• Experience developing high-quality, multi-threaded applications

Bonus Experience

• Experience with video encoding/decoding including H.264 and HEVC
• Experience with video, voice, or text communication applications
• Experience with native iOS mobile dev including Obj C/Swift/SwiftUI
• Experience with calling protocols including SIP and WebRTC
• Experience with Git and GitHub and CI/CD and the Google Play Store
