Job summary

Fuel Talent LLC seeks a Sr. Software Engineer in Seattle to build an AI-driven permitting platform. You will own orchestration of long-running workflows, integrate zoning codes, GIS data, and legacy systems, and craft explainable, high-quality software across backend, AI, and frontend layers.

The role emphasizes startup-grade velocity, collaboration, and a passion for scalable cloud systems. Strong CS fundamentals and experience with SaaS are required.

Qualifications

• Strong CS and software engineering fundamentals.
• Experience designing, building, and shipping SaaS and distributed cloud systems.
• Startup experience with greenfield development and scaling production systems.
• Full-stack versatility and willingness to learn new languages and technologies.
• Experience with Elixir/BEAM (OTP, Phoenix) is a plus.
• Experience building agentic AI systems with tool use, evaluations, context management, memory, and production guardrails.
• Strong coding ability using AI coding assistants while owning the output.
• Customer-centric mindset and track record of building exceptional products.
• Collaborative and enjoyable to work with.

Responsibilities

• Build the orchestration backbone for long-running, stateful workflows and integrations into zoning codes, GIS, and legacy permitting platforms.
• Build reliable, explainable services that interpret plans, codes, and emails while delivering traceable outputs.
• Develop conversational interfaces for applicants, reviewers, and city staff.
• Collaborate across backend, AI, and frontend to ship quickly and iterate with customers.
• Contribute to defining engineering standards, architecture, and culture.
