Job summary

PowerSchool is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable software across our product suite. You will own complex features, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and mentor peers, while applying AI-enabled development tools to improve quality and delivery.

In this role, you will work with modern languages (TypeScript, Java, C#, Python), participate in code reviews, and contribute to secure coding practices within a mission-driven education technology company.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5+ years of relevant software engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent, or equivalent years of relevant work experience.
• Travel occasionally, up to 5-10%, for team moments and events.
• On-call hours outside normal workday as needed.
• Experience delivering production-grade software and owning significant features.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and quality.
• Proficiency in TypeScript, Java, C#, Python, or related stacks.
• Ability to work with modern software development practices (Git, CI/CD, Agile/Kanban).
• Knowledge of software design principles, patterns, algorithms, and data structures.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, deploy, and maintain software applications and services using modern programming languages such as TypeScript, Java, C#, Python, or other relevant technologies.
• Own the delivery of complex features with independence and sound technical decisions.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to translate needs into technical solutions.
• Contribute to system and solution design, offering input on architecture and tradeoffs.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and quality.
• Participate in code reviews and ensure coding standards and secure practices.
• Troubleshoot and resolve defects, performance issues, and reliability concerns.
• Contribute across all phases of the SDLC from requirements to release and support.
• Support QA with unit and integration tests, including AI-augmented testing.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering excellence.
