Job summary

Genius Sports is seeking a Software Engineer III to lead complex backend initiatives, shaping data platforms and services with a strong emphasis on scalability, reliability, and performance. The role requires technical leadership, cross-team collaboration, and hands-on coding across multiple languages.

You will operate in an Agile environment, mentor engineers, and drive architectural decisions while balancing short-term delivery with long-term system health.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency with multiple programming languages including Rust, Kotlin, and TypeScript.
• Experience with architectural patterns and building scalable systems.
• Proven ability to solve complex problems and make sound technical decisions in ambiguous situations.
• Excellent communication skills with ability to mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Contribute the design, development, and evolution of robust data platforms and backend systems and services.
• Grow into a technical authority within and across teams, influencing architectural decisions and setting engineering standards.
• Collaborate with data engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to define system boundaries, APIs, processes, and long-term technical direction.
• Drive improvements in performance, scalability, reliability, and operability across critical systems.
• Design and implement efficient, resilient data storage and data access patterns.
• Write high-quality, maintainable code and advocate for best practices in code quality, testing, and documentation.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex production issues, including root-cause analysis.
• Champion continuous improvement by evaluating new technologies and approaches with clear value.
• Grow into a mentor and coach engineers across teams, supporting technical growth.
