Job summary

Bonterra is seeking a seasoned full-stack engineer to design and build reliable features across the full stack. You will work on backend services and APIs as well as the frontend, bringing strong UI/UX sensibility and a pragmatic approach to delivering business value in a mission-driven company.

Collaborate with product managers, designers, and QA, own your work from planning to demos, and actively use AI coding assistants to improve efficiency.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of production-grade full-stack JavaScript/TypeScript development.
• Strong React experience with architecture, state management, and performance.
• Backend experience with Node.js and TypeScript, building and maintaining production APIs and services.
• Solid grasp of REST APIs and GraphQL on both sides of the wire.
• Production experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices using GitHub Actions, CircleCI, or similar.
• Comfortable working in AWS or a comparable cloud environment.
• Strong problem solving skills, high EQ, and the ability to communicate and collaborate well across a team.
• Active daily use of AI coding assistants like Copilot, Cursor, or Claude. This is expected, not optional.

• Partner closely with product managers, designers, and QA to ship things people actually want to use.

Requirements

• 4+ years of full-stack JavaScript/TypeScript development on production systems.
• Strong React experience including component architecture, state management, and performance.
• Solid backend experience with Node.js and TypeScript, including building and maintaining production APIs and services.
• Solid grasp of REST APIs and GraphQL on both sides of the wire.
• Production experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices using GitHub Actions, CircleCI, or similar.
• Comfortable working in AWS or a comparable cloud environment.
• Strong problem solving skills, high EQ, and the ability to communicate and collaborate well across a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building AI-powered product features, whether that’s LLM integration, agentic workflows, or AI-assisted UX.
• Mobile development experience as a nice to have.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or infrastructure as code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Familiarity with nonprofit or social impact technology.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
